Bishop D. D. Davis

Douglas Davis was born in Newton County Texas on November 14, 1932, the son of a Pentecostal minister. A gifted musician, Douglas performed with regional bands and orchestras during his High School years and was awarded musical scholarships.

He accepted a call to spiritual ministry early in life and began to travel extensively as an evangelist at the age of 17. In 1950 he received ministerial license with the United Pentecostal Church International, headquartered in Hazelwood, Missouri. He received his ordination from the UPCI in 1957.

He married Betty Joyce Bond of Haynesville, Louisiana on September 3, 1951. Pastor Davis and his wife, Betty, became the parents of three sons: Douglas Jr., who is the Associate Pastor of Bethel United Pentecostal Church; Dan Eugene, who is Senior Pastor of the First United Pentecostal Church of Baton Rouge; and Curtis Wendell, who is Director of Christian Education and Data Operations Manager.

In 1951 Pastor Davis, along with his brother, Cecil, founded a church in Henderson, Texas. He ministered there, successfully building the congregation for two years. Today, Evangel Temple First United Pentecostal Church remains an active spiritual force in the community of Henderson.

After establishing the church in Henderson, Pastor Davis became an Assistant Minister at Calvary Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church in South Bend, Indiana. He served in this capacity for five years. During this time, his musical expertise as a singer, musician, and choir director became widely known.

In 1958, Pastor Davis founded Calvary Pentecostal Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Under his leadership this congregation purchased and outgrew three successive buildings. He was elected as a Regional Presbyter, serving on the board of the Texas District of the UPCI, and continued to hold this position until he relocated to New York. In addition, he continued to be very active in various musical ministries. He and his musical groups traveled extensively ministering throughout the region and recorded several albums during this time.

Feeling a call to establish a new church on Long Island, Pastor Davis moved with his family from Texas to Nassau County, New York in July of 1968. The establishment and continued growth of Bethel United Pentecostal Church is an ongoing testimony of the effective ministry of this dedicated man with godly vision.

Pastor Davis has served as a District Superintendent of the New York District of the UPCI. He has also served as a Regional Presbyter since 1971. In addition, he served as Chairman of the Board of Kent Christian College in Dover, Delaware for four years. In 1986 he became a member of the International Foreign Missions Board of the United Pentecostal Church, undertaking responsibility for missionaries in more than 150 countries around the world.

In his present duties and roles, Rev. Davis serves as Senior Pastor of Bethel, administrating the overall ministry of the church and fulfilling the spiritual needs of the congregation. In addition to these duties, he and his wife frequently travel overseas to minister in different countries and to assist in handling various concerns of the Foreign Missions Department of the UPCI.
